Advice for New Bloggers

coffee_cup_words.gifIt's hard to imagine that anyone could be new to blogging today!  But that's a reality - many Poor Irishman Internet Marketing Clients are new to blogging, to the web, and to internet marketing.  They might be very successful offline - running their own business, or managing a non-profit organization.  However, when it comes to reaching customers online, and making them take action to buy products and services - these Newbies turn to Poor Irishman for advice and assistance.  So recently, I was able to consult a client regarding his blog and ways in which he could increase search engine ranking.  This advice may be useful to you as a new blogger, or to someone who is still struggling to blog successfully!

Before we got into our consultation call I asked my client to visit a site with some great WordPress Templates.  If you are not using WordPress to create, manage and publish your blog - you are probably shooting yourself in the foot from the start!  Take a moment and visit the great blog themes at iThemes Wordpress Templates when you get a chance.

After you purchase that stunning blog theme - you can plug it in to your WordPress blog and get started.  But many of my clients are taking additional steps to customize templates and themes for Semio Logic Pro.  Getting a WordPress template to work with Semio Logic Pro requires a conversion - which is a service I offer.  It's fairly quick, and totally painless for you, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  But - iThemes - is a good way to quickly get a very professional looking blog site.

Beyond that our consulting call focused on increasing search engine awareness and increasing traffic to his blog.  My recommendations for this client are the same as I would tell anyone:

+ Continue Adding Fresh, Relevant Content Regularly - write to the reader, and not just to the search engines - but remember instead of writing "we" or "I" you should type "Poor Irishman Internet Markeitng" or another set of targeted keywords when at all possible.  Humans will read right over anything they don't need - but the search engine spider bots are forced to read every word.

+ Use the Free Version of WordTracker to locate and target HOT Keywords - WordTracker is one of the most powerful keyword research tools available online today.  And did I mention this is a Free Version of WordTracker which still does a great job hunting for hot keywords.  Start by looking up keywords related to your target market.  Keep in mind the terms your customers will use to Search for the solution you offer - and then add these keyword tags to your blog posts - within the text, as well as the Meta Tag field during post editing.

+ Submit your Blog and RSS Feed to Directories and Search Engines -

- - Tool 1 - - Self Promotion.com - I have used this powerful automated tool for years to add my URLs to search engines and directories world wide.  The service is still FREE - and very effective.  It does take a little time to get ball rolling - but then it's an avalanche of new visitors from all over the globe.

- - Tool 2 - - RSS Feed Submission - My top recommendation is to search for RSS & Blog Directories specific to your Niche Market.  These blog and rss feed directories are places people visit to find collections of sites related to their needs.  You should continue submitting your site manually to many of these directories over the course of several months.  And whatever you do - Don't Stop!  Just submit your blog or rss feed to a few directories each day, it's not overwhelming.  You can also use an RSS Feed Submission Service like the one offered by Poor Irishman Internet Marketing.  RSS Submission is done with software to quickly submit your Blog to the Top Ranking Blog and RSS Feed Directories - many with a Google Page Rank of 6 to 8!

So - the short clips of advice for new bloggers -
1.
Grab a professionally designed theme and have it Converted to work with SemioLogic
2. Research Keywords and Add Relevant Keywords to your Post Content
3. Submit your Blog URL to multiple search engines and directories - automatically, or manually

Following our conversation I sent my client a copy of a guide from the Lucid SEO Team regarding search engine marketing methods.  The information presented is not "classified top-secret practices by top marketers" - it's proven, time-tested, practical, and concise. The Lucid SEO Team lays out the reasons, methods, and steps for consistent growth of search engine awareness for your blog. There are NO quick tricks or schemes - just regular patterns of effort over a period of time - that's what pays off!
